CoQ 10 and Heart Disease
A study involving 40 subjects with coronary artery disease was published in Nutrition (Volume 28, Issue 3, March 2012, Pages 250-255). The subjects were randomly divided into three groups and given 150 milligrams of CoQ10 per day, 60 milligrams of CoQ10 per day or a placebo for a period of 12 weeks. At the end of the 12 weeks, the presence of chemicals indicating inflammation (IL-6, malondialdehyde) were significantly lower in the group receiving the CoQ10. Both supplemented groups experience an increase in CoQ10 in the plasma; furthermore there was an inverse association between CoQ10 levels and heart disease.
